Sheldon Valeda

Sheldon began studying middle eastern hand drumming in 1997 at Arabesque Academy with a focus on Egyptian rhythms and technique.  He has been teaching Egyptian hand drumming since 2002 at the Haft Vadi studio in Kitchener.  He has studied with such greats as Michel Merhej at Simon Shaheen's Arab Music Retreat; and Polly Ferber and Suhail Kaspar at the Mendocino Middle Eastern Music and Dance Camp.  Sheldon has also studied and performed and with Dr. George Sawa and Amer Matri of Arabesque Dance Company.  As a professional educator, Sheldon is uniquely qualified to provide drum students with an engaging learning experience and help you make fast progress with a strong foundation in technique and theory. He is currently playing the doumbek as a member of the Light of East Ensemble
